Inflatable rubber boats carry a comfortable life

Industry insiders pointed out that only with excellent quality can you fully enjoy the fun

Invite three or five close friends, drive a few SUVs, go to the waterside in the suburbs, inflate the rubber boat, drift along the water or go fishing in the water, and the breeze blows, what a pleasant thing it would be!

Standing in the inflatable boat exhibition area of an outdoor goods store in Beijing, Mr. Chen looked yearning. As outdoor activities become more and more popular, more experienced "hikers" like Mr. Chen are no longer satisfied with simple outdoor activities such as camping, picnics, running, and crossing. He began to aim at new ways of playing such as drifting and fishing with rubber rafts.

"Inflatable rubber rafts are easy to carry and the price is acceptable. I just don't know how safe they are. If they break in the water, it will be a matter of life and death." He said frankly that he would go back to do some homework and consult friends before deciding whether to buy.

Inflatable boats have many advantages

"Compared with wooden, aluminum alloy, and fiberglass boats, inflatable boats have very obvious advantages. They can be disassembled for storage and flexibly transferred, and can be quickly put into use in urgent situations; the hull has an inflatable buoyancy tire, which can greatly avoid the risk of capsizing in wind and waves; it has good anti-collision and buffering effects; it is easy to repair and the maintenance workload is relatively small." A staff member of a large outdoor goods supermarket in Beijing said that because inflatable boats are very light and can be driven by a motor at the tail, they are superior to wooden boats in terms of speed and fuel economy regardless of the same horsepower or the same speed.

According to reports, inflatable rubber boats are not the "new favorite" of outdoor products that have only emerged in the past two years. They have been used for a long time: as early as the 1940s, inflatable rubber boats were used in the military of various countries. After World War II, with the advancement of science and technology and the development of the rubber and plastic materials industry, inflatable boats have high-quality and cheap materials, which has enabled them to develop well in the civilian field. Over the past 30 years, the development of inflatable boats in Europe and the United States has been extremely rapid. So far, there have been mature and perfect products in the fields of leisure sports, operations and rescue. Among them, inflatable boats of brands such as ZODIAC, AVON, BOMBARD, and VIKING have been famous all over the world.

"The products of these first-line brands are characterized by the use of high-strength nylon fabrics with better performance and mesh fabrics composed of neoprene or colored natural rubber, and are equipped with high-quality parts and accessories, reaching a high level in terms of safety, durability, beauty and comfort." The staff member said that Japan and South Korea in Asia also produce inflatable boats, and their product quality is worse than that of Europe and the United States. "Of course, inflatable boats also have relative disadvantages, such as using sharp objects to pierce the inflatable buoyancy tire, and the boat body is more easily damaged. But good quality inflatable boats will take a variety of measures to deal with it. Therefore, as long as consumers can use it correctly, safety issues are guaranteed."

Material determines performance

So, what factors should a high-quality inflatable boat have? The staff of the US INTEX Beijing store believes that the so-called "high quality" must comply with the ISO 6185 boat manufacturing standard, and its main features are as follows:

First of all, the material is good. The inflatable buoyancy tire still maintains good air tightness under working pressure. The buoyancy tire is closely combined with the rigid keel (or inflatable keel) and the bottom plate inside the boat, so that the inflatable boat has sufficient rigidity to ensure solidity and fast driving; the bottom of the boat (except for the bottom of hard material) uses anti-reef tape to reduce the possibility of bottom damage to a very small extent; the inflatable buoyancy tire of the whole boat is divided into multiple independent air chambers, and the partitions are set with high air tightness. When individual air chambers are damaged, the other parts still maintain sufficient buoyancy, and the whole boat has good anti-sinking performance; according to the buoyancy and separation requirements, when one air chamber or two adjacent air chambers, or even all air chambers are damaged at the same time, the whole boat still has a certain buoyancy for timely emergency treatment; due to sufficient buoyancy, when the whole boat is at the maximum load (limited by safety of use), even if the entire cabin is filled with water, it can still float on the water.

Since there are buoyancy tires on both sides of the inflatable boat, the possibility of the boat body tilting sideways into the water is very small. In addition, there is a special stability test guarantee in the product design and manufacturing, so it will not capsize sideways even at the maximum load (even if there are strong winds and waves). In normal use, all the quota passengers sit on the buoyancy tires on one side, and the boat will not capsize, and it can still turn at a normal speed.

Except for the inflatable keel or inflatable bottom, all rigid keels and bottom plates can be disassembled and compactly connected (still ensuring the overall strength requirements), so that the entire boat can be disassembled for easy transfer and storage. The main accessories, such as steel buckles for towing, lifeline assemblies, boat handles, oar fork seats, and components for placing outboard motors at the stern of the boat are all guaranteed in strength.

According to the technical consultant of the specialty store, there are many types of inflatable boats that can be used in different fields, and their quality is affected by many factors such as materials and manufacturing processes. Due to the different quality of the inner base fabric of the rubber tape, the quality of inflatable boats will vary greatly. The highest international requirement is that the base fabric should be 1100D. The tape used in high-end boats is mainly made of 1100D base fabric and DuPont patented raw materials, called Hypalon. my country does not yet have materials that meet such high standards, and lacks corresponding boat-making standards. Most boat-making manufacturers use cheap PVC tape to make boats (the material is cheap, the heat-sealing manufacturing cost is low, and it is easy to sell).

"Good quality tape is resistant to high and low temperatures, corrosion, and aging, and has a high and lasting adhesive strength. Inflatable boats can be used for 5 to 8 years under correct use and storage conditions, and maintenance is very simple." The consultant said.

Broad market prospects

Data show that my country has a long coastline and a wide range of rivers, lakes, and reservoirs inland. The demand for small high-speed boats (among which inflatable boats can account for a considerable proportion) is very considerable. If my country's coastal port supervision, rescue, river navigation, fishery management and aquaculture, water and underwater engineering operations, civil flood control and disaster relief, ocean-going ships and other aspects are equipped as needed, and border defense, public security, customs have appropriate equipment, as well as water sports, water tourist attractions, and water entertainment venues are widely used, the demand is unquestionable.

"The application, development and current situation of my country's civil inflatable boats are relatively backward, which is the result of many factors." A person from the Beijing Sports and Leisure Industry Association analyzed that my country's original and later enterprises engaged in the manufacture of rubber tape products are difficult to play a role in this field because the material (especially the color) cannot meet the actual requirements of civil inflatable boats. In the past 10 years, some enterprises that have made some achievements in this regard are those that use PVC materials to manufacture inflatable products. They provide inflatable boats with relatively general requirements to the water recreation market. On the other hand, internationally, civil inflatable boats have experienced more than 40 years of development. Their manufacturing technology has been quite mature and strict in both theory and practice. At present, in addition to the ISO 6185 international standard for boat manufacturing, the European organization has more detailed and strict standards (unfortunately, my country still does not have corresponding standards). These standards have made specific provisions in terms of material strength, high and low temperature resistance, resistance to various types of corrosion and bonding strength, inflation working pressure, buoyancy, anti-sinking (air chamber separation), stability, spare parts, accessories quality and various performance tests.

Many industry insiders have called for the shipbuilding industry to formulate construction standards and a series of related technical documents as soon as possible, such as construction specifications, factory approval, product approval and product inspection. In addition, it is necessary to solve the research and development of synthetic rubber tape and colored natural rubber tape or other suitable material tape. If my country cannot solve the problem of high-quality boat manufacturing materials and only relies on imported materials or develops PVC inflatable boats, it will inevitably affect the future development space.
